CA was part of Mexico prior to 1850, when we stole it fair and square when Mexico refused to let us buy it. Bad Move on their part. Should have learned from what happened with Texas

This is why:

Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo, an explorer from Spain first entered San Diego Bay in 1542.

Our Spanish roots go back pretty far. It's one of the really cool things about California and one of the reasons why I laugh when I see people on the internet talk about "all of 'dem illegals in California." Hispanic folks were actually here long before the first person from England.

Many of them were founded by Spanish Catholic missionaries & were named after saints or other religious terms , So all of the San or Santa are named for saints. Sacramento would be an example of the other terms. I belive they planted many of the olive trees, & some of those missions still produce the best olives. Of course they used the olive oil for light back then, as well as for food.

First, it's : "Why are Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego, & San Jose ....". (It's basic 2nd grade grammar, dude.)

And the answer was already given - they were named by Spanish speakers before the U.S. stole California (oops, I mean "liberated it from the Mexican oppressors").

Don't worry. In the foreseeable future they will be taking it back by populating it by shear birth rate. Guess what goes around comes around. Plan on becoming fluent in Spanish ;-)

They're doing that in most of the US. Sure are plenty of them in my city - Spanish is being taught in elementary schools here.
