It's apparently improving for Californians (some of whom are transfer students from community colleges).

UC System Accepts Record Number of California Applicants, Nearly 100K:

California has shifted its higher education funds to Community colleges and less towards Cal States and UCs. This keeps tuition costs low for Community colleges and offers more classes to the mass population of students but also gives community college transfers good transfer admits to CSU and UCs. Often times in the past you see some CSU and UC students take general education classes in the summer at community colleges and transfer them to their schools saving a lot of money.

Why would you want to spoil a really nice story with totally dumb political comments? Are you really trying to just start another debate and if not why else would you interject that comment?

this is one of the things CA can be very proud of. They have always had an outstanding reputation for good universities, both private and public. Love someone brought up the Claremont campuses. I just wish more of the cities public school systems were as good as the university system.

It was or is a scandal, but the university has a great reputation in some fields: pre-med, business: sociology for another. I might be missing something but I do know they are a great school.

The Claremont Colleges traditionally rank high, but Soka, Thomas Aquinas and Occidental moving into the top 50 is pretty impressive. Add fine arts, architecture and performing arts schools and California deserves a world class powerhouse reputation people don't tend to credit. (USC's Thornton is BTW also always in the top ranks of music schools.)

Occidental which we called Oxy when I was growing up was across the street from the high school I gradated from and just about 1/2 mile from our house. I had a few friends that went there, but I am going way way back. It has always been a good school: you are right for it to climb into the top 50 is very impressive.

Yes! I am a UCSB alum We plan on moving back - this is a huge benefit as our children will be able to utilize the CalVet program for free tuition.
