Legal back then to dump DDT in metal barrels ... as if they wouldn’t eventually corrode open?

Used to dive off the Palos Verdes peninsula in the '80s. No wonder there were dead areas in certain spots back then

And they wonder why whales beach themselves, have trouble reproducing, etc. Now marine life is being found to have cancer in high percentages.

The thing is, even if there were money to retrieve the stuff, there would be too high a risk that the corroded barrels would break open in the process, and make an even bigger mess. I don't know if this problem is solvable.

Just proves, you can't trust industry. Secret illegal chemical dumps were found in Puget Sound, leading to local industries. The oceans used to be considered vast "terra nullius"-es, like the Amazon used to be, as well. Now we know that a rich web of life inhabit those parts of the planet, as well as humans on the terrestrial parts.

Oops.

It even indicates various Gov't agencies knew about it and did ..... nothing.

Wonder how man people who went fishing in that area, caught and ate the fish (Not to mention selling the fish to restaurants) and got cancer because of it?

I honestly feel that the whale beachings and a large amount of their troubles could possibly come from military sound/sonar or electrical/magnetic testing situations or accepted procedures.

I wonder what you would find if you could access the records of the First Nation Tribes.

Did they also have these problems??

I bet not,
but I could be wrong.

If we caused this we should fix this.

That’s all I got.

Andy.

True. It's become very noisy in the ocean. And it's also known that birds and mammal orient via the Earth's magnetosphere. Spiders float on electro-magnetic waves, it was recently found. Isn't that cool?

So we're supposed to place our faith in governments and bureaucracies,

which have no legal entity to oversee them,
which have no interest in resolving issues (since they would lose their raison d'etre),
which can't expand their revenues, power and influence by providing someone actually wants to buy.
and which have access to the legal monopoly on the (mis)use of force and coercion -- granted by the state.

If you say so...? That's not where I would go with this, but...to each their own.

I know people that target rockfish, white seabass and yellows near Catalina. They've been fishing there their whole lives. 500,000 thousand barrels of DDT.

Of course they didn't. No one ever questioned them. It's a small percentage of of the population that doesn't trust the government because they know what they're capable of doing - or not doing. Those people are often called radical but they aren't. They just pay attention. Make that more attention.
