If you're open to lower elevation towns, Sonora may fit your needs. It's one of the larger towns in/close to the Sierras and will likely have more housing options. Up the highway a bit is Twain Harte, which is smaller but at higher elevation. No matter, snow seems to be coming less and less to CA these days, so unless you get up to areas over 7k', there's no real guarantee there will be much snow.

Another option on the other side of the range is Mammoth. They definitely get snow at close to 8k' elevation in town. Talk about isolated though. While there is a town with folks who come in to ski, you are hours by car through mountain or high desert to get to any other form of civilization. That may be to your liking, but that would be too much for me.

I'm looking for a vacation house which I can visit from Bay Area 1-2 times a month. Needs to be within 30 mins drive from swimmable lake, fishing/hunting is a big plus.
3 bedroom, 2 bathroom with 0.25 acres of land.
Must snow, but not too much snow.
I'm considering Twain Harte, Pollock Pines, Groveland, Arnold, Nevada City.

Any other suggestions?

thank you
