California is expect to hit 4 trillion economy pretty soon only country in the way is Japan which is number 3.

The state economy is already bigger than India, Brazil, UK, France

The US state of California is projected to pass Germany to register the world's 4th-biggest economy.

But that's based on GDP, a metric that's less than comprehensive.

That article is dated. I don't think that ever happened.

I don't think it's all that dated. But I do think if you actually read the article, you'll see the picture is not as rosy as our OP made it out to be.

No worries on that. I hope it gets there, but there have been multiple threads on the topic and it was concluded it hasn't happened yet. I believe this was the last couple....

California's current revenue is over $600 Billion and a current GDP of around $3.6 Trillion+,so it is very possible for California to become the 4th Largest Economy and have a GDP of over $4 Trillion by the end of the year.

I’ve always found this very misleading. Would California’s economy be so large if it wasn’t part of the United States?

In 2022 the US GDP was $26 trillion and California’s was $3 trillion, or 11%.

The US population is 330 million and California’s population is 39 million, or 11%

See a pattern here?

I’m a huge California homer, but this is like those who think they hit a triple when they were born on 3rd base.

That analogy was great.

Without California the U.S Economy is still huge, but compared to other Areas that are Larger such as Canada, or those with a Larger Population such as Mexico...California's Economy is huge for it's size and population,California's Economy is even larger than all of Russia, and may even surpass Germany(The Largest Economy in Europe)
