You experienced one of the two happiest days in a boat owner's life.
Where do you live? (Your profile is not populated.) Is driving distance a factor which defines "best"?

I always had fun at Lake Piru, either trolling for trout near the dam or using power bait in the coves.
Other fun spots: Big Bear, Casitas, Castaic, Cachuma (on which I rowed as an oarsman for UCSB), and Pyramid. I think at one time Casitas a world record bass pulled. Casitas is where the rowing events were held for the 1984 Olympics.
For even more fun, check out the High Sierras: Convict Lake, Lake Sabrina, and Twin Lakes near Mammoth.

Lake Isabella, bass is slow, but some good sized catfish have come out of there.
