Hello,

I am a single 24 year old black female who is umarried with no children. I currently live in Northwest Ohio and is planning to move to California in the future. Right now I am going to school to finish up my associate's degree in nursing. I have been interested in the UC Santa Cruz school to major in computer game design. It's always been my dream to major in game design. I wanted to know if there is a nice county or neighborhood to live in Santa Cruz for me to work, live and drive to UC Santa Cruz college.

Um... odd shift in career choices but good luck to you. The campus itself is atop a hill and somewhat isolated. The town of Santa Cruz is nice... so is Capitola.

Santa Cruz (which is in Santa Cruz county and do consider the entire county ... we have an excellent bus system and the entire county is very connected and easy to maneuver around especially once you get to know routes and traffic patterns) has many wonderful neighborhoods (some kinda urban, some sub-urban, etc.) and rural areas that are within easy commute to UCSC.
It's an expensive area (have a look at craigslist to get a sense of rental prices) but it may be doable (depending on your budget) and if you're open to a house-share situation, all the better.
Santa Cruz county is a liberal, open, friendly and tolerant place and although there isn't a huge black population here, it's my sense (albeit as a white gal) that you'll feel comfortable and welcome.
