Yes, in some places its illegal to use profane language in public. You can be ticketed, or sometimes jailed.

In a way, I can see their point. It is not just a California issue. Can not tell how many times I have been in restaurants and heard people doing that. If people do not have the upbringing to realize it is unacceptable well .................... Just one of my biggest "pet peeves". I will even refuse to go out in public with people who do cuss ! Also, it is NOT allowed in my house.

This reminds me of the movie with Stallone, Snipes and Bullock.

Demolition Man

Seen it?

If not, rent a copy.

I'm with George Carlin - "we have 990,000 words in the English language and we can't use 7 of them... That's 989,993 to 7." Why?

Let's talk about some OTHER forms of profanity: 1) corrupt politicians who allow their people to starve and live in substandard housing (Haiti, Somalia, Philippines, Indonesia, and on and on) while the US just keeps "supporting" those countries with donations and our tax $, it turns out we are filling the pockets of the corrupt officials; 2) Politicians who start out their careers telling us they intend to serve and who leave office as millionaires on $100,000 salaries; 3) People who think the Bill of Rights is multiple choice; 4) People who think their religion is the ONE, the RIGHT, the ALL and want to shove it down the throats of everyone else; 5) People in positions of authority who use it to abuse children; 6) Creeps like Bernie Madoff and the Wall Street Gangs who have assaulted America and destroyed the livelihoods of the majority of its hard-working citizens; 7) Terrorists who have used the open and welcoming policies of this great country against us and made our lives worse because of their smallness and jealousy.

To me, these are the real profanities. Let's take them to task and make this country better. Whether or not I feel one of the "heavy seven" words are appropriate is my 1st amendment right as a citizen of the USA. And sometimes - especially in the face of the 7 items listed above - those words are very appropriate!

LOVE LOVE LOVE this movie. Classic. Every single Californian should be required to watch it. It is a perfect example of why we can't just "hold hands and sing kumbaya" and we can't Legislate Decency -- Life is tough, people are unique, things are complicated, competition is good, conflict makes us stronger, and we are not children who must be instructed how to behave by Legislators who barely know how to behave themselves.

And can we throw out all the Political Correctness that got its start in the Universities of Northern California and the NE Atlantic Seaboard? Was it just too cold and foggy one day when y'all thought up those ridiculous notions? ("Oooh, be careful. He doesn't know he's Japanese. Let's make sure he says he's Asian-American. We don't want him to be embarrassed if he finds out he's Japanese.") Any of you white folk out there ever hyphenate yourselves? If you don't, do you see how patronizing and socialist the whole thing is that we do that for NON-whites? Do I have to point out all this stuff? BTW - Race crimes have gone UP, not down, since the PC movement started. So have lawsuits about discrimination. Of course, it's possible the diversity training just gave a lot of people ideas for litigation... Just sayin'...

I worry that we are raising a group of 20-30 somethings who don't realize how ridiculous those PC notions are (and the bill about cussing is just another one in the long string of stupid California laws.) Demolition Man highlights the results of such a stilted and PC way of life. Wesley Snipes is brilliant in it. Sandy Bullock pulls it off tongue in cheek and is also brilliant. Stallone is - well, Stallone. Dennis O'Leary is perfect as the underground leader. Thanks for reminding me of this one MDVaden!

Werd

Cussing can make a person look bad, but that's because that's what we have been fed since birth. As adults I would think many would realize they are only words, it's how we use them that make them dangerous or social.

Demolition Man!!!!! Auto tickets from robots. Hahahaaha!!! Not far from reality I guess.
