Something I don't understand about this. The guy's alive. Why not start there and ask him? He's going to be incarcerated for life. Ply him with booze and good food if he isn't cooperative at first. Make his life miserable if he still doesn't cooperate.

I think we as human beings do this a lot. How many people who don't hesitate to squash a spider (even a harmless one) mercilessly, would be horrified if they saw someone kill a lovely, graceful butterfly? The difference? Spiders are icky-looking. They don't float gracefully and they have too many legs. God forbid.
Same with certain outrages..."I heard in this one country they eat cats. Who could eat such a beautiful, sleek creature with such an amazing history?" all the while munching on dead cows which, unfortunately for them, are sort of big, lumbering and fugly.
The Jon-Benet Ramsey case was like this too (well, not totally like it as nobody ate Jon-Benet Ramsey, but you know what I mean). God, if I heard ONE MORE TIME how tragic it was that someone who would have grown up to be such a gorgeous beauty queen had died, I was gonna be ill.

Same with certain outrages..."I heard in this one country they eat cats. Who could eat such a beautiful, sleek creature with such an amazing history?" all the while munching on dead cows which, unfortunately for them, are sort of big, lumbering and fugly.
