One thing I'll mention, though, is that pasting entire articles in this thread could be viewed as copyright infringement by the original author, and could get city-data in trouble, so it might be better to post maybe the opening paragraph, and then a link to the rest of the article. I would hate to see this thread get deleted if city-data gets a cease-and-desist e-mail.

Otherwise, thanks for keeping this thread full of info regarding this bill. I've found it very informative.
These have permission to cross post far and wide. They were in emails, not link to sites.

Okay... I'm done playing forum cop now...

I used to run a forum-based website and we received a few c-a-d letters when members would copy/paste entire articles, and in that situation you have no option but to delete the content. Just didn't want to see that happen here.

Here's why Californians should be mindful of bad law, in this case AB1634.
-IRS Federal precedent says pets are hobby, not business. How can Calif. require business licenses in order to qualify for intact license?
-The government is not supposed to negate the value of your property (in this case sterilizing showdogs.) Even seizure laws (eminent domain) include recompensation.
-the law only punishes "good guys" who never have dogs end up in shelters. (Believe, every reputable dog person has a contract to take back any dogs the buyers change their mind about, and/or breed rescues rehome them.
-the statistics used to promote the agenda are false, based upon feral cat populations. This is government duplicity aimed squarely at us. The so-called exemptions are not doable in real life.
-the law promotes bad medicine and bad science. Veterinary science is a specialty, not one-size fits all micromanagement. Pediatric sterilization is dangerous, and wholly contraindicated for large breeds as well as tiny breeds.

CROSSPOST FAR & WIDE!

*** AB 1634 - MANDATORY SPAY/NEUTER BILL UPDATE ***

AB 1634 now goes to the Business, Professions and Economic Development
Committee of the California SENATE. This committee meets the 2nd and
4th Monday of the month. The next scheduled meeting where Levine can
present this bill is June 25. If it fails at this meeting, it can be
reconsidered on July 9. All business must be completed by July 20 as
the Senate recesses on vacation for a month. Any amendments to this bill
need to be to the committee 4 days before they convene.

Please write these members as we did with the Assembly Business and
Professions Committee. The AKC website still has sample letters. Also,
contact your own Senate Representative and let them know that you are
opposed to AB 1634 as it passed through the assembly.

Anyone with show dogs should not consider relocating to California if this heinous bill passes. You will have no exemptions, few as they are, at all circa 2009.
