Hi there,

we are slowly getting back into camping. We did have a trailer, then a fifth wheel, an then sold it to buy a vacation home. Now we are selling the vacation home and strongly thinking of an airstream.

Any opinions

Well -- my opinion would be to buy one that is smaller and would take less gas to tow because gas prices seem to be going up.

I'm sitting (ok laying) in my 28 footer right now.

I love it.

Check out the air forums....

Look at their projects- really nice stuff using old chassis Airstreams.

I really like some of the remodeled Airstreams. The quality is far better than factory with gorgeous wood and fabrics.

They are beautiful and retro. I'd rather not have one over a normal camper with slide-outs because I feel claustrophobic in one. But, there are good Airstream clubs that travel together and are easy to sell when it's time. Buy whatever you like and enjoy.

Trouble with Airstream is that you're paying an awful lot for the name.

Not entirely. A big chunk of the price is due to the quality materials and workmanship. That's why the "name' is still highly regarded after all these years.

When I was a kid (like elementary through high school), I traveled around a large part of the US with my grandparents in their Airstream. Pretty much every summer was a trip out west to Montana or somewhere, and spring break/Christmas/Thanksgiving/long weekends were often spent at the Airstream park up in North Georgia. I remember going to at least 3 or 4 international rallies.

I think they had a 31' at first, then a 34' later, if I remember correctly. My grandfather passed away in 2001 and my grandmother had to sell it about 2 years or so ago, but to my knowledge it's still making it's way around the country.
