This morning I got myself all set up to mow my lawn, as is the God given right of every American on a Sunday midday. I checked my oil, put gas in the mower, and parked it right where I was going to start mowing my front lawn. Then I went in to get a drink of water and . . .
Ten minutes later I went outside, and guess what? A giant RV is parked right in front of my house! The steps from the back door are let down right into my yard! So of course, I can't mow my front lawn without leaving a big grassy place along where the steps and edge of the RV are. Which is essentially all of my street edge.
So here's a plea from those of us who live in tourist towns: PLEASE REMEMBER THAT YOUR VACATION SPOT IS OUR HOME!!!!!!!! Park your stinky RV in one of the many parking lots. Or along a stretch of road that has no houses.
A few weeks ago during a major festival that is held in our area I went to the grocery store. A hoard of drunken tourists were throwing loaves of bread to one another, laughing and screaming. These were not kids, it included adults my age. Went I went out to the parking lot, guess what was parked there? An RV.
Please enjoy getting drunk in your own back yards.
Thank you for allowing me to vent. It has allowed me to cool off, so guess I won't go smear dog poop on the windshield of the RV. This time.
Tourism does bring in money to the community, but it is my taxes that pay for street repairs, and my monthly city bill that will be docked if I don't keep my grass mowed. So in that sense, I DO own the street. And what kind of person would actually leave part of their property (the steps) on someone else's property (my yard)?
And just because tourism brings income to the community doesn't mean that tourists (not only RVers) can behave like Ugly Americans when they're not in their own hometowns.
Living here has surely taught me how to behave when I go on vacation myself!
Knock on the door and tell them to move their steps.
Fold the steps up yourself.
Go ahead and mow and let the mower throw grass clippings onto their RV.
Parking on a public street is OK, but it is not OK to traipse across private property, which is what these RV people were doing. OP's front yard is not a public park.
Quickly canvas the neighbors for dog poo. Spread it on your lawn near the street as fertilizer. Lift the mulcher hatch on the mower. Mow away while whistling.
