I have been looking for a motorhome and found some that is 39 foot long and just wondering if national and state parks will allow a motorhome this size? By the time I pay for a truck and 5th wheel camper I can buy a motorhome.

Thanks for the help.

That is an unanswerable question.
The only thing that can be said is "Some campgrounds/parks will be able to accommodate that length of coach in some sites, some won't!"
I have seen many Forest Service campgrounds that have one or two sites that are long enough, and many state parks the same.
Then there are sites that can barely handle an 11 foot truck camper on a standard cab pickup!
Good luck.

This website looked helpful. They say there are few pull-through spots in national parks, so you should be prepared to back into a spot. I didn't quickly see info regarding how long an RV could be, but perhaps if you check the site out thoroughly, you could find that info.

Yes, you can camp in SOME national and state parks with a rig that size. As a matter of fact, there are MANY sites in national and state parks that allow rigs that size.

I would say "I hope that answered your question," but your question was tough to answer to begin with, as there are probably hundreds of thousands (or more) of campsites at state and national parks.

We have a 40' motorhome and in our experience, some campgrounds can accommodate you and others can't. When we plan a trip we always map it out and check the campgrounds ability ahead of time. When we are stopping just for a night, we prefer a pull through so we don't have to detach our towed vehicle so we call when we are on the road halfway through the day.

I like it... If you need something this BiG... Go for this one, (good price, I love my many Cummins powered vehicles) EXCEPT... many 'trendy' campgrounds (and storage) have a 10 yr MAX age rule. (crazy, since this looks NEW (as does my 2000 Rialta)).
This has a nice long wheelbase (very important for handling / reduced longitudinal 'rocking'. (along axis of vehicle). Check the pic here (what NOT to get in wheelbase...BIG Tail swing / BOUNCY poor weight distribution (especially if you tow something)) Small Diesel Pushers - Small Motorhomes Buying Guide
Tiffin’s Allegro Breeze is one of the few small diesel pushers on the market.

For resale, you need a 'Slide-out' (This appears to have at least one).
The Diesel Genset is probably a $4k benefit.

Check tire age. 7 yr MAX... truck tires are $250 + $~100 FE Tire tax (each).
This one has LOTS of entertainment options (Which I would PROMPTLY sell and recapture at least $2000.) I don't 'do' TV / and other wastes of time while enjoying the OUTDOORS. The last TV program I watched was probably 1968 'Hogan's Heroes', been 'too busy' for TV since then.

BTW:

My mom and several fulltimers I know HATED their 5r's and went to Class A and a Class B.

Depends if you are Transiting or parked / living in them fulltime. (5r Can be better for that). I really dislike traveling in a 'pick-up'. (crowded, bouncy, expensive, DANGEROUS (towing is ALWAYS dangerous (coming from a 40+ yr CDL driver), no refrigerator / full size napping bed / dinette to escape too while enroute. few states allow 'triples' (towing something behind your 5r) ... ATV, boat, jeep, spare car, motorcycle, utility trailer...

This is another idea motorhome I'm thinking about. The worry would be for the 39 foot motorhome is how bad is it to drive and turn around corners?

2008 Thor 24ft Four Winds Chateau - $20000

Nice well maintained RV. 50K miles. Newer tires and batts. No smoking or pets. Onan gen 169 hours. Heated waste tanks. New never used canopy. Tow hitch. 11-14 MPG.

Motor Home, 1999 Monaco Windsor, Diesel Pusher 38'
Very different motorhomes for different price / purpose / people.

2008 w/ 50k for $20k is a bargain also (and will be much ezr to resell to a 'recreational' RVr / family / euro-couple touring USA). It would be fine for frequent short trips / and up to a couple months. It is a 'commodity' Class C. I couldn't digest driving a chevy gasser... Way too many yrs doing that!

The 1999 is a 'niche' rig and will NOT be ez to resell (already16 yrs old, a BIG deal to many people)
It would be a very nice 'fulltime / extended travel' rig. BUT... you will not sell it in a couple months. Only SERIOUS RV's will look at diesel pushers. Many of those buyers are not cost constrained and will buy NEW!!! ($220k), rather that save $150k and buy yours used.

If you are gonna use this thing for 5-10 yrs, the 1999 will hold up FAR better.

I don't do GAS (ick) and Sprinter based chassis is TOO expensive to maintain, so I would go with the 1999 (personal choice). (Tho I much prefer a 3 axle to a 2) more stable / quiet / cooler tires.

Owner of 2008 Thor 24ft Four Winds Chateau - $20000 has told me never park it very long because it starts to go down. I would be parking for long time like 4 months to a year. The 1999 Monaco Windsor, Diesel Pusher 38', 330 HP Cummins would be parked longtime also. I quess a 5th wheel camper is only way to go and also I have about 2000 pounds of cargo to take with me.

Thanks for the help.
