https://www.foxweather.com/extreme-w...tic-snow-storm

I am thinking about storing some long lasting food, hope I will never use it, but it gives me peace of mind to have some long lasting food in my house.

1) Only requiring water for preparing the food, if power outage.

2) It is likely that I will never use the food, so the longer shelf life, the better, minimum 20 years of shelf life.

3) At least taste fine.

There are some on Amazon, not sure if they are good, or any other better suggestions? https://www.amazon.com/s?k=long+last...ref=nb_sb_noss

I am posting under this forum, since I think camping person may know better.

Thanks.

Walmart sells Auguson freeze-dried foods in canisters. I get the impression they are WTSHTF pantry items. We bought one can of beef stroganoff that is still unopened 4 yrs after buying it.

The shelf life is much longer than the usual backpacker freeze-dried meals are but I don’t know if it’s 20 yrs.

Guess we should try it, because if it’s good, I’ll buy a couple of their other products.

For just a snowstorm, make sure you have peanut butter, jerky, nuts, dried fruit, crackers, and canned goods on hand. In other words, normal food that you will eat anyway.

If you can get some of the MRE that our military is currently using, see how they taste. If you like them, keep some in storage.

When we served in Vietnam, we ate a lot of CRations. Some tasted fairly good.

I ate them before, don't quite like it, they are acceptable food to me, but I don't think it is still good after 7 or 8 years. Shelf life is shorter than my expectation. That means, a few years later, I may need to throw them away and buy some new.

I will go to Walmart and take a look.

Thanks.

Check out some of the prepper sites. There are quite a few.
Living on a dime to go rich is pretty good but they always try to sell their cookbooks on every video.
There are many others but what I found is that once I clicked on one site, others came into my feed.

20 years shelf life kinda limits what you can get. Mostly gonna be canned stuff or as some people stated above, MREs. And ofc, you can't have both 20 year shelf life and good taste, gotta choose one

I just checked the date on that one canister of Auguson: 2041! It’s already been at least 4 yrs since I bought it, so there’s your ultralong shelf life product. No vouchers on the flavor at that point.

20-year shelf life is a rather high bar.

Also, do you know any Mormons?
I think it is (or was) a tenet of their religion
to keep a year's worth of food stored away.
You might get some useful suggestions.

Auguson is based in Salt Lake City. Assume the obvious.
