I'd guess Bridle Path in Toronto is number one.

In the United States, some of the wealthiest neighborhoods are in Virginia and Maryland surrounding Washington, DC, as well as in DC itself. It seems there is a connection between government and wealth in the U.S. Do you find such upscale neighborhoods in and around Ottawa? And what is Canada's wealthiest francophone neighborhood?

Many of the suburbs of Ottawa (especially the western ones) are quite wealthy but the historically rich area of Ottawa is just northeast of downtown and is called Rockcliffe Park. The Prime Minister and Governor General's residences are just on the edge of this area, as are many ambassador's residences.

The richest predominantly francophone area in Canada is the inner city district of Outremont in Montreal.

When I lived in Toronto, one of the terms used to describe someone's political leanings was "Rosedale socialist."

This was someone who had a well-paying job (lawyer, physician, university professor, etc.) and who lived in one of Toronto's better neighbourhoods (Rosedale, Forest Hill, the Bridle Path, etc.); and who proclaimed that they stood for the working people, unions, de-privatization of industry, and so on. Yes, they supported the NDP.

The irony was that none of these people had ever done a lick of blue-collar work or belonged to a union in their lives. They were well-educated, mostly due to Daddy's money and influence at getting them into U of Toronto, Queen's, and Western; and well-employed, again due to influence. If you ever read the Adrian Mole books, Pandora's parents would be the perfect example of Rosedale socialists.

I knew many Rosedale socialists in my undergraduate days at U of Toronto. To be called such was an insult, not a compliment.
