World's 6 most widely traded currencies (source):
1. US dollar
2. Euro -> currently at ~12-year low vs. USD
3. Yen -> currently at ~8-year low vs. USD
4. Pound -> currently close to 5-year low vs. USD
5. Swiss franc -> except for last week's crazy bump, CHF vs. USD has been rather stable for past 5 years
6. Canadian dollar -> currently at ~5-year low vs. USD

Almost all central banks currently want a weak currency to boost exports while the US hasn't been pursuing that strategy as aggressively, so the USD has become stronger vs. most other major currencies.

Passing on your $1,500 purchase is actually a great thing for the Canadian economy. How about you buy some maple syrup with those savings?
barneyg, most people I know are expecting the US dollar to tank this fall, if not before.

I live in Canada. I can get Maple syrup for free from any one of hundreds of trees around where we live.

"Everyone is expecting", alright, so it hasn't happened yet.

The U.S. dollar has actually been gaining grounds in the last 2 years in terms of world payment usage.

RMB breaks into the top five as a world payments currency

I see. Looks like those people you know may be able to make a heck of a lot of money on the futures market, as USDX futures are currently trading at higher than today's price. Surely that's got to be wrong according to the people you know.

To answer the original question....

"Quebec" is to the Canadian Forum what "France and Muslims" is to the European one.

If someone (generally not Québécois or indeed even Canadian) wants to implement a discussion or rake over old issues for personal entertainment and/or to boost their own feelings of self importance then "Quebec" is a pretty safe bet. You may possibly find that the OP has no interest in talking, just having their own opinions validated.

Large swaths of Quebecois want to seperate? Blame the Americans!

As far as I can see, every single one of the Quebec seperation threads has been started by a Canadian or a Quebecois, and almost exclusively involves Canadians/Quebecois. I don't know how the "blame the Americans" card can work here.

What's up with these constant Quebec independence threads? They are even starting to pop up in other sections of this forum.

Here's the other thing, these threads are most often started by the same 5 or so people. Are they part of some sort of PQ "internet army" with orders to flood the web with Vive le Quebec libre nonsense?

Here's the reality about things:
Quote:
The younger Quebecers are, the more likely they are to vote Non. The staunchly federalist La Presse twisted the knife in the aftermath of the PQ’s rout with a CROP poll of 18-to-24-year-old Quebecers: Not only would just 31% vote Oui, but only 44% agreed sovereignty was even realistic, while 65% agreed the debate was “outdated” and 68% agreed that being Canadian was part of their identity.
At some level, today’s PQ must be aware of these losing conditions. It is widely accepted that Pierre Karl Péladeau’s fist-pump for separatism, on stage with Pauline Marois in Saint-Jérôme, was a very negative turning point.
http://news.nationalpost.com/2015/02...self-delusion/

The desperation of the PQ and their delusional supporters spamming the Canada forum is evident ...
