In the spirit of change, let's do something a little more upbeat.

What are some of your favourite spots in the Great White North. Whether it's a restaurant, a scenic spot or just somewhere cool.

Pictures and/or google links are always welcome.

I have fond memories of brunch at the Banff Springs and taking in the view of the city from Nose Hill in Calgary.

The tulip festival on Seabird Island in Agassiz is one of my favourite events. Many acres of tulips with Mt. Cheam as a backdrop. This year it's from April 1st to 12th. The website has a picture gallery. Tulips of the Valley

.

So many. Just a few:

-- Waterton Lakes National Park. So often overlooked in favour of Banff, but just as majestic.

-- An early-morning drive north from Sault Ste. Marie on Highway 17 on a summer's day.

-- A perfectly-prepared martini at the Bengal Lounge at the Empress Hotel in Victoria BC.

-- The used bookstores in Halifax. Also, the Old Triangle pub in that city.

-- Cape Spear in Newfoundland. Catching a traditional band at a pub in St. John's.

-- Taking a train to or from Union Station in Toronto.

-- A real Montreal smoked-meat sandwich at Schwartz's in Montreal.

-- Watching a train head through the Spiral Tunnels in Yoho National Park.

Totally agree about Waterton Chevy. It's like Banff, distilled and concentrated. If you could only do something about the wind.

I've never been to Waterton when the wind doesn't howl around the Prince of Wales Hotel (for those who don't know, that's the building in the photo). And it does howl; it is so strong that you can lean into it and it will support you.

But elsewhere in the park, it's not nearly as windy. It can be calm around Cameron Lake and Red Rock Canyon, and only somewhat breezy in the townsite itself.

I think one of Waterton's charms is that the town (but not the park) closes down for the winter. Oh, one hotel remains open, and police and fire service is available, but all the houses and businesses are shuttered. On a winter's day, with nobody around and the town sleeping under a blanket of snow, it is quite pleasant, if a little surreal.
