Hi everybody,

I know I might get some backlash for this, but my husband and I have considered moving to Canada. I'm an American and have a Bachelor's Degree, but my husband only has some college..however he has years of experience within the manufacturing sector. The reason why we want to move is because we have researched that Canadian life can give us a positive experience. I've been to Canada before..specifically Toronto, Hamilton, mississauga, Niagara Falls, My husband's status is in jeopardy because he is a DACA recipient, but we both don't want to leave to go to his home country of El Salvador. I know rent will be significantly higher than what we pay now, but it's doable. Would we need to apply for a job, get an offer, and then apply for a work visa? Would it be possible to go there with the money we have saved up and then try to find a job? We would have over $15,000 saved up.

You can't just move to Canada and then look for a job. You must have a sponsor through a Canadian company that will be hiring you. If you should be offered employment and decide to move, your husband may not be able to work. Read the information that jambo101 posted very carefully.

Right to an extent - I may be wrong but to my knowledge there s nothing ot prevent you from applying for a job while here on a tourist visa. You just can't work until you have status. Of course, telling the border agents thats your purpose may not get you in the country.

The best place to start is absolutely the CIC website. There are also legit or immigration consultants who are licensed (not lawyers). I have no idea how CIC would view DACA status. There are a number of ways to immigrate including being sponsored by a company, or as an economic immigrant, or if you are a US citizen, thru NAFTA for certain occupations.

If you are an American, can you not sponsor your husband for US permanent residency?

Absolutely correct, you can look and apply all you want, that is not illegal. You may only work once the visa has been granted, which you cannot get on a tourist visa. You would have to return home and apply then.
