I am an old Hippy and still look the part at 50. I spent a while living in North Vancouver, BC about 10 years ago but spent much time shopping, eating out and just plain hanging out in the Downtown Vancouver area. Kitsilano well known in the 60s and 70s for Hippies of all kinds congregated there. They are still there today. Any coffee shop or strange organic food place or unusual places to eat you can still find Hippies that can not grow up. Like me.

There was one place in North Van where the decor was pure psychedelic beauty called The Bean. It burned down and I dont know if it was rebuilt. Another place called The Rice Pot was in Kits. That was Hippyish and it was good. Kinda Indian gormet organic strange dishes. I loved that place.

Victoria has some hidden away places that are Hippyish but I cannot remember the name of them.

Have fun in your travels..........

Coombs BC....Kinda small, but was populated by hippies in the early 70s who now mostly own off beat businesses there....It was where I used to get my "special" smoking supplies in those days.

Coombs BC Map, Artisans Galleries & Collectables, Old Country Market

Lasqueti Island may be one of the last refuges of today's hippies...Really a cool place, but like a trip back in time.

Like, some of these don't mesh. I think you will have a hard time trying to fit "spiritual feel" and "easy going" with "cosmopolitan" and "high employment".

From what I think you want, you want to go to BC, especially Vancouver Island. The gulf islands are even more laid back, but like.... remote and "cosmopolitan" and "high employment" totally do NOT apply.

In my experience if you want to chill with relaxed people who appreciate music and are "easy going", vancouver island is your kinda place. "spiritual feel" heavily applies.

Kitsilano is home to the spiritual yuppy, but the hippies live out on Saltspring Island or Hornby Island. It'll be rare to find them in Kitsilano these days.

Kingston has a lot of old hippies too. Lots of 60's American hippies live there now...they came up during Vietnam.
