O-Kayyyyyyy! Plan 1 down the toilet! Whispers did not wish to eat dinner, at which time I had planned on introducing him to the carrier. I got him to promise me he would eat a lot of fishies tonight...LOL
Part A to Plan 1. On the fly of course. Let me try introducing him to the carrier tonight when he "requests" his magic medicine.....his homeopathy he gets twice daily to address his "rickets type leg problems". Here we go....fly with the wind as per usual.
Cats rule! What can I say? You can plan all you want, but when it comes to brass tacks, cats usually get their own way. He WILL be very cooperative going into that carrier tomorrow. Yep! Positive thinking! LOL
Sending good vibes and plenty of prayers to you and your entire feline pride, Garden...I liked Anon's suggestion for the carrier, this method has worked for me in the past too!

Remember, they feed off the emotions of others. So if you want your boys to be calm, you have to demonstrate calmness to them! You have to model it. If they sense you're scared out of your wits, and your fear is directed to the well-being of Whispers, then Whispers will pick up on that and be wondering WTF I AM GOING TO DIE LOLOLOL!!!!!!!OMG
Also, a more practical suggestion (since trying to not be scared is like trying to not think about elephants when someone says, "don't think about elephants."):
IF...and that's a big if. But IF Whispers becomes aggitated or hostile while you're trying to put him in a carrier. Then move the carrier away, stand it on end so the opening is face UP. THEN... believe it or not - gently, lovingly, wrap Whispers up in a towel. Cradle him in it, covering his head. You have to be fast with this, and firm, but gentle and loving. Cover his head and eyes. Don't worry about him breathing, he can breathe just fine. BACK HIM into the carrier, butt-first, downward. Try not to let any of him touch the edges, so he thinks he's just being placed back on the ground. If he can't see the cage, he won't know he's being put into it.
Shut the door, set the carrier back down normal, and voila - instant caged kitty. He'll be unhappy, and annoyed that you tricked him. He'll get over it though.
What a great idea! But I'm wondering, will it work more than once?
I also have had to wrap a cat in a towel and put him/her in a carrier (open end up) a few times. It was TOUGH to do the first time, because it just doesn't seem very nice. BUT it does get the job done (with no casualties ) and the cat lands on his/her feet. Some people are successful putting the cat into the carrier feet first... I have never been able to accomplish the task with feet first. The back feet always seem to "get away" or get out from under the towel.
Also, you have exactly two seconds to accomplish the mission.
Works every time as long as it's abrupt, and you don't try to "lead up" to it. Open the cage, set it upright, grab the cat with the towel, stuff it in the cage, set it back down, BOOM. Done.
Some animals do better than others with this technique. Birds, horses, and cats are three I know of for sure who calm down when their vision is obscured. Horses generally don't like walking into trailers, but blinding them seems to help. If you cover a bird's cage, it'll fall asleep. You could probably juggle the cage and it wouldn't know the difference The backing-in-vertically is my vet's trick. That's how she always gets my cats back in the carriers. She says she does this with all cats, because she has better control over the cat, and she doesn't have waste a hand holding the cage still.
Cool. Got it. Sheet folded in four now in closet to cover carrier. (I normally do this anyways LOL) By the time I get everything together, will there be any room left for Whispers in his "special closet"? LOL
On the serious note, not one cat (again) in this house ate normally tonight. First this morning, now tonight. I am walking around trying to find something to do, and believe me, for having a busy life, I find it extremely odd that today of all days, everything just seems to be done. Hmmmm.....How does that work?
Never mind. I think you were saying that you were covering the carrier to keep it out of sight for now.
No, actually, Lola, I am using the sheet to cover the carrier when I bring Whisps in tomorrow. I want him to see it now, and I am hoping his curiosity will bring him to the carrier to check it out. Hoping.......
Sending positive vibes your way... everything will be ok and just think, in less than 24 hours it will all be over!!! Great advice about the carrier, so much easier when it stands up like that. I had some really deep bloody scratches last time I tried to put my Kiki into the carrier the "normal" way. On the other hand, her brother Ollie lets you put him right into the carrier without a peep.
I'll be thinking of all of you!!!! Whispers - be strong sweetie pie.
