After all these years as a feline caretaker, I have come to the conclusion that the term "cat discipline" is an oxymoron.

But when it comes to those cranky furballs, I tend to be a big softie.

My way of living happily with a cat is "I can control what my cat will do, but I can control how I feel and deal with it", LOL!

I keep my kitchen counters and all tables clear of objects. When I need to prep foods, I just wipe clean with alcohol wipes (thanks to the pandemic, they're readily available at Costco). If I'm prepping foods and the cat jumps up, I'll just move my stuffs quickly to another counter that she can hardly gets to. Luckily, she doesn't jump up to our dinning table. She would just jump up to the kitchen counter next to it, and watches us when we're eating. Always guard your foods and drinks :-)
