Thank you all so much for the wonderful advice and suggestions. I am picking up Amber this Friday afternoon and I will certainly keep you all posted on her - and maybe even post a few pics!
I cried with you when you lost Toonces, ... I'm excited for you, as you open your [wounded] heart to your new kitty.
Will post pictures soon . . but just a quick update.
Amber is doing very well. She was so polite and sweet on the car ride home - didn't fuss or cry, just meowed very daintily. I do have her in the spare bedroom per the recommendation of foster mommy. She didn't even try to hide though when we came home. Just loving on me (and vice versa!) wanting to be petted and snuggled. She ate and drank - and used the litter box 2-3 times. I slept in there with her last night and she was such a good girl.
I bought her a scratching "scroll" and a sisal rope scratching post - both of which she has used and I have praised her for using them. She is already starting to look up at me after she scratches on them, seemingly for my approval and praise - so she seems incredibly smart.

When a new addition to the household arrives, we pet parents get just as bad as people who've had a baby. "He looked at you when he said 'ma ma'! We have an Einstein!" LOL!!!
Many were the times when Weasie let on that she thought I was the densest creature on the planet. It was always amusing to observe her "accommodating" this. She went so far as to personally introduce Blaliko to me, to make abundantly clear who was to own me after her. Not everyone can be so lucky, so I'm glad Amber found you without the help. Toonces is out there somewhere, somehow, nodding and purring approval.
THANK YOU FOR NOT DE-CLAWING, and both of you have a Meow-y Christmas!
Glad things are going well, and hope they continue to do so. Sounds like you are both lucky to have found each other, and that Amber is going to have a wonderful life with you. Also adding my big for no declawing.
Congratulations on your new family member.
It worked and she is beautiful! Congrats on the new gorgeous kitty. One my cats always looks at me for approval after she uses the scratching post. If I fail to praise her she will leave the area, come back and scratch again while I watch her. It is too funny!
You were a goner the moment you saw her, and she knew it (giggle)
Congratulations, seems as if you already have/had a close, special relationship.
