I agree with everyone else in saying that amount is a bargain compared to paying for a "professional" sitter. I like the idea of cleaning out the box (if you are physically able and/or can find enough litter on hand) and leaving a note.
$40 for 5 days of feeding is not that much at all. If it took you half an hour each day, it's $16 an hour. I had a friend pay me twice that, but he has 4 cats and only two of them eat the same food. All had a mixture of wet and dry food, so it did take me close to an hour to feed them all.
