I have a 10 year-old black-chestnut short-haired domestic cat named Bernice who I adopted from animal control after being brought back when her pet parent passed away, nine years after initially being adopted there. She was lonely and withdrawn when I got her, but she has slowly warmed up and now allows for affection and sometimes even being held for a few minutes. She loves canned Fancy Feast Salmon and dry Meow Mix kibble. I have tried healthier options but won't touch them. In addition as part of the affection episodes/after brushing I give her treats which she loves or used to. Suddenly she's throwing them up and have eliminated the original Temptations and now Friskies. She won't eat Greenies at all. I have read where there are ingredients in the lesser quality treats that can cause upper GI issues so wanted to see if the more experienced owners here have had similar incidents and if so, what else have you tried?

I never buy treats. I buy indoor cat food and use it as treats. The cats don't mind, they just like having something crunchy since I feed them canned food.
It's not OP's fault if the cat came eating Meow Mix, just work on cutting down the portion of dry and upping the wet until you can talk her out of Meow Mix, which has very poor nutrition.
I was dog sitting for a friend once and she couldn't afford to feed her dogs a diet of 100% wet food so she should me how to "cut it" with dry food and mix both together in the same dish. Your cat may warm to the wet food that way too. Little by little add more of the wet food and less of the crunchy.
My cats LOVE the temptations treats. I didn't think the ingredients were too terrible. The one cat literally can't wait for me to even put them on her plate and tries taking them right out of my hand.
And thank you for rescuing this baby. It sounds like the poor thing has gone through a lot.
Yes, that was kind of my "Merry Christmas." Both to the OP and Contra. Why in the world would you jump on a person who has gone through all the trouble of rescuing a cat that surely needed the help, and then berate said person?
They are doing their very best, and have come to the Cat Forum for help. Help, don't down grade the person. Please be kind.

Have you ever tried (human) meat baby food as a treat? Ours love turkey and chicken. You could also use this as a topper/mix in with some wet cat food to entice her to eat that.
Live-a-Littles (freeze-dried chicken breast) is also something a lot of cats like. It's softer too, so you can crunch some over food.
If possible, you should give her a wet food diet, especially as she's 10 years old. It's much better for their kidneys and overall health. Yes, I know it can be difficult to switch them from dried, but it can be done. It took me two years (yes, years!) to transition our late Benny, who was a dry food addict. I thought I'd lose my mind at times, but eventually he loved canned food. It was worth it, as he lived to age 20. <3
God, get rid of the damned Meow Mix. That is NOT proper cat food. That's like feeding your kids nothing but junk food.
