They get weighed at the vet, sure, but that's what, once or twice a year? Cats are very sneaky about hiding health issues. A cat can lose several pounds even without anyone noticing.


I find regular weighing with the baby scale helps in several ways in addition to monitoring that they are at an appropriate weight. I learn their fluctuation patterns, I know when something might be going wrong, and not least, it's another way they get used to being handled. They hate being picked up and put on the scale, but they tolerate it because they trust me and understand nothing bad will happen.
