All afternoon and into the night, the cats--River, Punkin, and Inky--camped out on our bed or in the bedroom closet. They're ALWAYS in the den with me, at least two of them but typically all three. Usually River and Punkin will be on the recliner with me, or on a cat stand nearby. But today all stayed in our bedroom.
I cracked a can of cat food about 9:30. That ALWAYS gets a response, you know how it is, cats charge in and expect their evening meal. NOBODY showed up. Later I saw two of the three dishes had been cleaned off, but nobody came into the den. Finally later on River came in and parked on the recliner over where my wife used to sit. No sign of the other two.
After I hit the shower, Inky showed up at our usual rendezvous point on the corner of the bed. Every night, she'll go to the corner of the bed, I'll kneel and scrunch and scratch and pat her for a 10 minute session of purrs and kitty butt and general bonding. That she DID do tonight so all is not lost.
But I must say this is the most peculiar bit of cat behavior I've seen, in memory. Did I die? What's up with the cats?
I've noticed that my cats change their habits, especially with the seasons. Also with their age.
If you have more than one maybe the alpha is leading everyone's behavior.
I've had one cat that insisted in climbing into the bathtub with me. As I lay lolling nearly neck deep, she'd stretch out on my chest nearly neck deep herself. Thought that was pretty peculiar behavior.
It was a particularly difficult to be patient with her claws and the kneading behavior!
It's the season. Cats can and do change their "routine" during winter and summer months.
Not to worry!
