Two or three weeks ago we were listening to some Saturday morning talk on the radio.
The host told the story of his dog, who had cancer and was treated, but eventually crossed or was put down.

Our grey cat was in the room with us, and our orange was sleeping in her little teepee which sits on the couch. Orange had cancer surgery about three months ago.
Grey cat perked up after the story was finished, got up, went into the living room, and stood up by Orange's teepee.
She poked her head in, as if checking on her sister.

My wife and I looked at each other.

She has never done that, before or since.
We figured she caught the drift from the radio guy (or perhaps from us), and got concerned about her sister.

It was quite interesting, and touching.

Animals are probably a lot more empathetic than we give them credit for.
