I would like to say this is a joke but it is not. I went all through the house trying to find the mama to be kitty. Could not find her anywhere so I thought she and hidden to have her kittens. Well I found her. She had got in the bed with my wife and gave birth right where I sleep. I have 3 new yellows and one black at the moment. I hope she is done. Have put her and kittens in a box near our bed. She seems very content with the move. Wife is changing pads and all bed covers now. What a mess. This is a first for me for sure. My wife slept through the whole ordeal. I was near by and never heard a peep. She has fooled us twice now. First by not showing any signs of coming in to heat and then sneaking into our bed for a delivery room. She is not going to fool the vet as soon as the little ones are weaned.
Something similar happened to me when I was in college; my roommate had set up her mama with a nice box and everything, yet she chose to have her babies in my bedroom closet. And yeah, I slept through it too.
It is indeed a bit of a mess, and your scenario (complete with sleeping wife!) is quite the late night surprise!
After a recount today after lunch I found a fifth kitty. All of them lined across her tummy eating like little pigs. This will be a funny litter to keep track of except for one. One black one and 4 yellow now.

Too cute! And, who says animals can't think. She thought of the perfect nest for those little ones as well as her own comfort. Smart kitty.
