I wanted to try the CleverCat top entry litter box but didn't want to spend $30+ for essentially a rubbermade type plastic tote with a hole cut in the lid.

So I found the super-easy instructions online to make my own version of it. I already had an unused tote and an old handtowel, so my cost was ... zero!

Amazon.com: M. Brooks "musical af...'s review of Clevercat Top Entry Litter Box

I put about 3 - 4" of litter in the box and kept it in the cat's bathroom. She was too little to use it when I first made it, but on her own, around 15 weeks old, she transitioned herself from her regular litter pan/box to the bin.

I notice much less tracking of litter and she can dig to her heart's content without making a mess.

It looks exactly like the one in the video except my towel is gray. But the bin is the same.

It just occurred to me....It wouldn't do me any good. With Jax's short legs, he could get in, but would never be able to get out!

Does anyone else shoe their cat out of the litter box when they're digging? Sometimes I have to either yell or kick the box for her to get out. She enjoys ripping the bag so her urine leaks to the bottom and I have to scrub it.

Ripping the bag? It's a plastic bin.

I use The World's Best Cat Litter and as long as I maintain 3" of litter in the box, her urine never goes to the bottom.

I was talking about reg. litter boxes. But I think just using a Bin and empy/re-filling it is unsanitary if not using some kind of liner (unless it's cleaned regularly). Remember, they step in their own feces and then jump on your bed, couches, kitchen counters, ect...

Well yes, any cat that steps into any litter box is going to have 'unsanitary' feet, even after you've scrubbed a litter box. The minute they 'go' they are susceptible to stepping in what they just left. That's not pertinent to this topic. Good litter box hygiene suggests one should scoop out the litter box at least once a day if not more often and thoroughly empty/sanitize/clean the box at least once a month and that would apply regardless of the type of litter box (unless one has a self-cleaning litter box).

I watch the box like a hawk, I scoop the minute they go. Lol
