My boy has been diagnosed with a cancerous tumor in his mouth. I know the outcome but he's not giving in. He wants to and does eat, he just can't keep anything down, the vet gave us some medication to calm his stomach but that's not working. Any suggestions?

Aw, this must be frustrating and heartbreaking for you! Have you tried chicken or turkey baby food? Or how about getting some Hills A/D canned from the vet--it's a highly-palatable food for ill cats.

Ask your vet about trying pepcid or zantak (human meds), and get the dosage from him/her. I used to use that on our Tucker when he wasn't feeling well, and it helped.

Again, my heart breaks for you. Sending a purr.

I'm so sorry. I really understand what you are going through, I'm in a similar situation myself. In my case, she seemed to *want* to eat the richer foods (boiled or raw chicken, grain free cans of chicken, etc.) but wasn't keeping them down. I randomly grabbed a can of Friskies Senior Chicken a couple days ago and gave her that and not only does she want to eat it - but she's keeping it down (so far so good! fingers crossed!). I know it's full of stuff I normally avoid (wheat, corn, etc.) but I think this is just easier on her system maybe because it's lower in protein - who knows. So anyway, maybe try a "senior" food of some sort?

I would also recommend Forti Flora if you haven't tried it already. It's this powder you sprinkle on their food and it's very appealing to them & it has probiotics & nutrients that are good for them. You have to get it from the vet though.

Good luck!!!

Awesome people with awesome info! So far today a bit of turkey baby food is staying down, his 2nd feeding (about 2 hrs later) seems to be doing the same. I am noting amounts and time intervals so hopefully I can help someone else with my findings! Thanks all!!!...Dan..(not fan)

You don't need to buy FortiFlora from a vet, as it's not a prescription item. Amazon sells it. From discussions I've read on raw food boards, it's not actually that great as a probiotic. However, it is often used as a "food topper" to entice cats to eat, because it's made of the same stuff that dry food is coated in.

The OP could try probiotics, but at this point it's more important that he eats. I'm glad the baby food is working.
