Jack Nicholson

He's been in a lot of great movies, and he's made a lot of movies great. Even in a mediocre film it's almost always still a delight just to watch him do his thing.

Kevin Spacey also immediately comes to mind, as do Meryl Streep, Al Pacino, Sean Penn, Jodie Foster and John Malkovich.

Ed Norton is my favorite, but a bunch of honorable mentions:

Brad Pitt
Kevin Spacey
Leonardo DiCaprio
Tom Hardy
Matt Damon

I'm usually not too impressed with female actors. Kathy Bates owns every scene she's in, she's really good. Pam Grier, too.

Robert DiNero - Everything he's done/does is outstanding.

Meryl Streep - Everything she's done/does is outstanding.

I too love to watch Ed Norton -- so so many great actors.

Gawd, how can anyone truthfully narrow the list down to one? I'd have a hard time limiting it to 100 living or dead.

that is a beautiful list. I can tell you put a little consideration into it, and didn't just go with pretty faces.

I have a major man-crush on Javier Bardem. He's intense. And he can be anything. It's effortless. He is an idol of mine. I'll also throw Christian Bale in there because of his dedication to nailing the character and the scene. He is critical of his performances as Batman, but I saw nothing not to like about the way Nolan wanted it done. He fit the bill.

As for women, I get a little giddy when it comes to the females. I like them all. Not really a Drew Barrymore fan because most of what she does is crap. But that's about all of them. Diane Keaton is a winner with me. As is Jodie Foster, whom you mentioned. She's just damn good.
