I don't think he gave a bad performance in his life. A solid actor if there ever was one. Harry Dean Stanton will be missed.

The first movie I ever saw him in was Where The Lilies Bloom (1974) - which was really under the radar but a very good movie, and I was impressed with him even then. He only got better.

Here's the NY Times piece on his passing.

His last work was in the movie Lucky, which comes out 29 Sept, and I think I'll make it a must-see flick. The link has the trailer from Lucky.

Well, Cool Hand Luke was made in 1967, so for not being a widely recognized actor at that time, they sure gave him one heck of a close up shot when he sang "Just Come Closer Walk With Me" as posted by Mr Rational. He did an awesome job singing that, and put plenty of feeling into it, as he was trying to set Luke on the right path, lol. And yes, I liked him a lot in Alien and many other movies but his Cool Hand Luke spot was the most memorable to me.

RIP Harry Dean Stanton.
