We used to see Larry King on TV as we watched Dodger's home games. He had a front row seat right behind home plate. At the end of that row, to the viewer's right, often sat former TV host Mary Hart and her husband. This past summer they had cardboard likenesses of all those people in those seats.

King was an excellent interviewer. He made the conversations with his guests look so easy and natural. he never fawned over his guests and could tackle any subject discussed intelligently and with curiosity.
I've never seen another interviewer as good as larry king and probably never will. he was one of a kind.
He was the only unbiased newsman on television. At least he never showed any biased why he conducted his interviews.
RIP to a news legend.
Now.. I'll disagree with part of this.. I don't think I would consider him a newsman and I don't particularly think he would, either.
He was an interviewer. And a pretty dang good one. And, I will agree with you that he didn't generally let politics figure into the discussion. If a political figure came on his show, he'd ask questions about political issues, but he wouldn't argue political points.
