In the movie Dolores Claiborne, released in 1995, Plummer was great in the roll of detective John Mackey.
I'm glad you mentioned that film. Although I remembered him from "The Sound Of Music", it was "Dolores Claiborne" that really got my attention focused on him as an actor. It's a rather depressing movie, but the acting of all the major characters is great, and Plummer and Bates most of all.

Ditto. for some odd reason I remember him in later movies albeit smaller roles like Must Love Dogs and The Lake House. I never understood his distinct British accent. Based on his life, there really is no clear reason as to how his British accent became so strong and remained so throughout his life. I tend to think he adopted it and kept it intentionally.
One thing for sure, he was truly a legend and made every character he played, much more memorable!
My wife and I have in the past made a habit of watching "The Sound of Music" on Thanksgiving after everyone goes home.
We had the experience in 2018 of going on a trip that included Salzburg, Austria and taking the Sound of Music Tour. For real fans, I recommend that. We got to see many of sights filmed in the movie including the Mondsee Church where Plummer and Andrews were married...
What an experience! I'd like to do that. I don't necessarily HAVE to becuase I have other bucketlist travel goals, but this would be nice!

OK, I didn't even know that since I only watch Dolores Claiborne once eons ago, so I didn't even know at the time that he was in this. Then that's 2 movies of his I've seen (Sound of Music being the other).
I didn't know he died, always thought he was a good actor.
