Angela Lansbury, the London-born actress who for seven decades brought a commanding, ladylike presence to stage, screen and television — especially over the 12 years she played dauntless mystery novelist Jessica Fletcher on CBS' Murder, She Wrote — has died. She was 96.
She had a wonderful career, from her beginnings as the maid to Charles Boyer and Ingrid Bergman in 'Gaslight' to Jessica Fletcher in 'Murder, She Wrote'. Her level of class is sorely lacking amongst today's "stars".
She sure seemed like a nice person.
I have always liked her work.
She seemed perfectly cast for several of her roles.
Now that I think about it it’s because she did good work.
She was also quite a looker when she was young.
I’m sure being the apprentice witch that she is, she is still floating around somewhere on that darned bed still trying to cast the perfect spell .
RIP Angela.
I remember when she was the little old lady in Murder She Wrote. She was only 58 years old when she started that series in 1984 (38 years ago!) but she did an excellent job portraying the grandmotherly character, Jessica Fletcher, and continued to do so until the series ended in 1996 which was an amazing run for a t.v. series. She was full of life and brought a sparkle into any role she played.
I didn't really care for her younger roles, but as she matured I gained a lot of respect for her.
She always seemed like an "old soul" even as a young woman. I think she grew into herself when she entered middle age and that reflected in her roles and likability, even though the roles she played as a young woman seem to have gotten her the most accolades.
