Between the culture of alcohol and smoking that was prevalent during their times.. It's really not a surprise.
Flynn died of a heart attack, but basically had cirrhosis
Bogart was esophageal cancer.. Which.. Flip a coin as to whether the smoking or drinking was the cause.
Ward Bond was a heart attack, but.. I believe he was a heavy smoker and drinker
Shaw was a heart attack, but.. He was a known alcoholic.
And Gable was a heart attack as well.. but.. Again.. Smoking and Drinking.
And then John Wayne, who had about half a lung left when he died, was a heavy smoker and drinker as well and sat there on the set of Genghis Khan (I think) which was on the Nevada Test Site and something like 220 people out of the cast and crew of that film developed cancer. And. he was.. I think 78 when he died? No.. 72.
And it was The Conqueror.. That was the film where he PLAYED Ghengis Khan.
but, he was 72 in 1979 when he died. So.. You think about that.. He also looked old when he was young. Of course.. he also smoked 7 packs a day.
That's disturbing. Our perspective now is so different than it was back then, when 50 was considered "old", and many 50-somethings looked old. Even so, that's too young to die. I'm glad people are taking steps to live more healthfully now.

very true.. but surprisingly when I take photos in old graveyards many were in their 80s and 90s in the 1800s.. I found that surprising.. but of course that has to be measured against all the childrens illnesses that were killers back then long before Penicillin... so I suppose deaths were on average..

I was looking up someone a few months back.. He died in 47 or 48 I believe it was..
Of Syphilis.
It just shocked me that someone passed away that 'recently' from syphilis. Someone else then mentioned Al Capone, who basically died of the same thing around the same time..
When I am looking at IMDB and I see how old they were when they bought the farm, I note whether or not they lived through WWII.......that was bound to upset the time table of anyone.

Apparently he never recovered from the loss of his third wife, Carole Lombard, in a plane crash. She was supposedly the love of his life, and after that it was written that he went downhill rapidly.

Sadly they had been quarrelling before Carole went on the war bonds mission.. She had taken over from Gable who was tied up working on a film with lana Turner who Carole suspected was having an affair with her husband... .....She was desperate to get back to Gable to sort things out between them and unlike Carole had refused her seat and her mothers seat on the plane to servicemen... ..but she was so intent in getting back to Gable... Maybe Clark carried that burden all his life...
