Another will be rooter here. ICS nuked a bunch of my apps. Before I drive one of my CD friends bananas with endless questions does anyone know if SVTP is affected by ICS updates? I don't want to buy it unless it works (without rooting) otherwise if it doesn't I'm rooting my Galaxy S2 Epic soon.

Best time to root and/or hack your phone would be when you're seriously considering buying a new phone. If it works, great, you get a few months to shop for a better deal. If it breaks your phone, then you go out and buy the new phone.

I'd have to disagree, if your going to get rid of your phone rooting is just a waste of time.

Not much of a chance that rooting will brick your phone as long as you follow directions, and the whole point is to make it easier to use and customize, why would you take the time to root if you're replacing it? I don't see the logic

I have a tendency to procrastinate major purchases ($100+). And I generally don't like the idea of throwing away (or recycling or whatever) something that is in good working condition. My idea is to root and overclock the remaining juices out of the device until it dies.

Ahh, I don't do any overclocking or performance mods, I find a more streamlined ROM without all of the carriers bloatware installed and running is sufficient for me as far as performance goes.

Yeah, I also replace the rom with a lighter weight one too (see my earlier post a few pgs back.)
