Got the iPhone XR, so I figured to sell my iPhone 7. The phone is in excellent condition, bought from Verizon and paid off. So I got a $230 offer from Gazelle which I accepted and I shipped out my phone.

Here's an email that I received from them:

When we checked out your Apple iPhone 7 128GB (Verizon), we found some conditions that affected the value of your item. Here's what we found:
  • Model Change: We discovered that the Cell Phone you sent in is actually a different model. Because different models have distinct values, this affects the offer we can make.
    • You identified your gadget as an Apple iPhone 7 128GB (Verizon), but it is actually an Apple iPhone 7 128GB (Unlocked).
Because of this, we are adjusting your offer to $190.00 for your Apple iPhone 7 128GB (Unlocked). You can choose to accept the new offer of $190.00, or have us return your item to you. If we do not hear from you by 12/20/2018, your new offer will be automatically accepted and we will pay you the new price
Original offer: $230.00

So they are dropping the price by $40 because it's "unlocked" instead of "Verizon locked". Mind you, the phone *IS* a Verizon phone. I declined their offer and requested my phone back. This sounds like a scam to me. Any others have experience with them?

How is an unlocked phone worth less than a Verizon phone??? I buy all my phones from the Apple store, unlocked. Pop in a Verizon SIM card and it becomes a Verizon phone. You are being cheated. Have you heard of the website called eBay ?

I absolutely agree with you, and I requested for my phone to be returned. I have sold on eBay in the past, but after all fees, etc I figured the offer wasn't too bad. Guess eBay will be next.

$40? I would have still sold it. NO it does not sound like a scam.
Maybe Verizon phones fetch more on the resale market.

While odd that being unlocked is worth less it's not a scam. If they're holding your phone hostage and you must accept their lower offer than yea it's a scam.

I have sold to Gazelle a number of times and always had a good experience.

I just checked and they are offering $195 for Apple iPhone 7 Verizon "flawless" and $185 for unlocked. But, for a "good" the offers are $165 and $150 in favor of the unlocked. Weird.
I think you got caught in fluctuating (i.e., declining) prices.
I would take the $190 as their process is painless.

You could always try Swapa.com, but the process is more work.

I understand that prices fluctuate, but they should have said so. Don't give me a BS excuse.

It's a phone that I got through Verizon, was on the Verizon network, paid off and then sent to Gazelle. In my opinion an unlocked phone should be worth even more than Verizon but in reality Verizon=unlocked.

Gazelle lowered the price and tried to get away with it by Bull****ting me. And yes, $195 for a mint iPhone 7 128Gb is way too low.
