Really depends on how much you plan to use the phone. I use about ten minutes a month so a pay as I go cell works for me. But then, don't forget those tech support and customer service calls with IVRU's and hold times.
I've never done it.. I honestly wouldn't either.. voip is being offered seriously cheap by some small companies.. that is more affordable then the risk of having to have your cell charged all the time and things like that.. (I have considered sprint airave's for my cell)
We are thinking of giving up our home phone and going to cell phones only. Has anyone done this and can tell us the pro's and con's?
Thanks!
I have been using the cell phone since 2000! Never had a problem!
I also use the wireless internet service from Verizon! Excellent service ...Love it--because I can go online anywhere in the U.S....Except a little be more expensive!

I've gone wireless only about 4 or 5 years ago and haven't missed my landline.
However, if I was married and had a family I'd get the landline hooked back up. In the event of an emergency a landline is far more beneficial. If you call 911 from a wireless phone you may not be connected to the 911 center that serves your city/town, your call would then have to be transfered to the correct 911 center which would increase the response time.
If you call 911 from a landline they will know your address and will be able to send help if your unable to communicate your location or problem. When you call from a cell phone they may not know your location and their response would likely be delayed.

I haven't had a landline in forever. The 911 service is a little unique. With my phone, if I call 911, it uses the GPS to triangulate the position and connect to the right 911 dispatcher. If you are in a low-populous area with not enough towers, then it may not work 100%. From there, you get transferred to the right one.
Other than that, I've not seen a problem with going with only cellphone. Most of my calls are done in the evening when it does not use up my minutes. And of course, there's always Skype.
And if I need to make any calls during the day, I could just as well use the office phone. That thing on my desk that I poke at when it rings? Yeah.
