You just have to pick your days when you venture out off shore in a small boat. Back when I first got my 21' bay boat, I took it 32 miles out past the end of the jettys......

Ive been 14 miles out with it plenty of times....

These photos were taken from the company website to promote how sea worthy the boats are. I personally cannot at this point imagine dealing with seas this big in a 22'er (this boat)

I'm completely ignorant about this, is this typical?

That looks like fun if all you want to do is be barfing over the side all day!

On the other hand, if you were planning on doing some serious ocean crossings (which you wouldn't do in a 22ft boat anyway), you'd probably have to eventually deal with seas like that. That just doesnt look like any fun to me.
