My family and I are looking to relocate to Charleston from Lexington,KY. We have been doing quite a bit of looking but still have some more specific questions for people in the know.
I keep reading that Summerville is a place to choose but not many people say why. So Why would you choose where you did??? What is the rental market like? Such as right now we are in a 1300 sq ft duplex for 800. It also has what I think is a normal size yard. What kind of dwellings would we be looking at/for?
My family consists of me (would be working at a hospital in sugery), my wife, and 2 young school age children. I know that I need a place of employment before even thinking of moving(duh) but what are the schools and areas around like. I'm looking for a little bit of what someone might call "insider dirt"...
Weather is not a concern too so don't worry about us there.
Just about every area has nice areas to live with some good schools. As a general rule I'd say $1000 for rent in most areas for what you are looking for. I don't think I'd even begin to look at places to live until you know where you are working, where you work will be the main factor on where you live because of the commute.
Kingping, what would you say your pros and cons are. I've been hearing nothing but good thing about charleston. I live off Richmond rd past man o war and work downtown to give you my commute. Any other good tips?

We live in Mt. Pleasant now. We lived off Man O' War near Hamburg. We liked Lexington and still visit sometimes.
Some pro's - Nicer weather, proximity to beaches, cheaper property taxes, water everywhere, good public schools (Mt. Pleasant, Summerville), history of Charleston, people...
Con's - We miss family/friends in Lex, cost of living seems higher
Well my wife and I are both prior military so the distance from family doesn't bother us too bad. I hear that the school are a little better around there too. Any truth to that?

Yes if I wasn't in Mt. P or Summerville I would send my kids to a private school.
