I got my Thermacell at Walmart (per Tom's suggestion back in August). They seem to have them in stock year-round. Mine didn't help a great deal with the mosquitoes but I'm fairly certain that's because NOTHING will ever help me with mosquitoes. Those little buggers love me and my poor kid. I never had any issues with the noseeums but maybe we moved here after their peak?
Umm, I'm absolutely terrified of the Palmetto bugs. They are literally the only thing that has made me reconsider moving there. PLEASE tell me that I'm over-reacting and that my fear is irrational! I think that I can deal with just about any other kind of bug (for example, we have gigantic wood spiders here in NY), but there is just something about the Palmetto bugs that creep me out to the point where I consider whether or not I can live with them!
I totally freaked when I would see them when I first moved here. They are like ants outside at night and I would run from them. After being here for a couple years I have become used to them. I no longer run from them and I am pretty good at killing them in the house. After a while you will get used to them too.
I brought a thermocell with me to my kids track meet yesterday, and it didn't seem to have any effect on the noseeums at all. Hopefully it will work better once the mosquitos start swarming.
It takes about 15 minutes for it to warm up and you should see little bits of smoke coming out when it is working, covers about 1/4 acre.
Robynn, I have one that you can have if you'd like. I moved out of my house and into an apartment with a little screened in porch so I won't be using it. Let me know!
Rory, where you make a Thelma and Louise reference?
