Has anyone heard of a guy who does a little cast-net program for kids on Sullivan's? Where he pulls it in and explains about different animals, etc.
We have two little budding scientists/nature lovers (4 and 6) and we want to get out there and explore all the great nature here (we live in Old Village, Mount P), but we want to start by learning from experts, not books. If anyone has any other cool outdoor programs to suggest, I'd appreciate it, as well, thanks!

+1.. I'm also interested in this.. Sounds like alot of fun for the little ones.
Charleston County Park has some summercamps that are intended for young nature lovers.
We moved here a couple years ago and used Youtube to learn how to cast a net. We bought a small net and watched videos over and over. We bought the smallest net possible and cast it off in knee deep water or off a pier/dock without sides. My son has caught a lot of bait fish and even caught a stingray at Sullivans. We like to catch the tiny fish and let the younger ones feed the fish to the sea-gulls on the beach.
Ha-Ha-Ha,,,Its not a good idea to feed the sea-gulls on the beach. (What goes in, must come out)
You said "Stingray",,,Let me give some advice. If you ever get hit by a stingray get yourself to some HOT water (as hot as you can stand it) as soon as you can...It kills all the pain instantly! DO NOT put ice on the wound!

You wasted good redfish, trout, flounder bait on seagulls! Shame!
At home (North Carolina) there are a handful of captains that will do "waterman" charters. I don't think they do this here.
They would teach the charter about commercial fishing methods by giving a hand-on day on the water. Pulling some nets, setting/checking crab pots, catching shrimp, etc. The charter was able to keep their limit and they learn alot about how things work.
I think Sullivan's Island Elementary does a field trip every now and then. They pull a seine and teach.
