There is a growing Hispanic community here in Charleston, although probably a little smaller than Greenville's. Official estimates say 50,000 Hispanics (tot. pop. in Charleston is about 650,000). I would say 60-70% are of Mexican origin, some Puerto Ricans, and recently South Americans (Brazilians, Ecuadoreans, Argentineans, Peruvians, Colombians) in all kinds of occupations from doctors at MUSC (Medical University of South Carolina) to construction tradespeople and business owners.

I am very plugged into this community, I am also a founding member of the Hispanic Business Council, an initiative of the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce. I'd be happy to provide any information for your husband.

I would also recommend coming down and driving around the different locations, if you can. I moved here from Seattle, WA, and it took us a while (three separate trips) to really narrow down where we wanted to live. Daniel Island was at the top of our list for a while, but we ended up in Dunes West, which is a development in newer Mt. Pleasant, and we chose that location for several different reasons (including schools for our kids). Anyway, many of those (including agents) who have posted here are right on the money. During non peak periods, traffic is not bad at all--I used to commute for 1.5 hrs a day in Seattle (each way), so this is a dream come true. The weather is super, the people around here are very nice, the beaches are not crowded, and there is so much history. New restaurants are popping up all over the area and there are many things to do with your family. I hate to say it, but I'm not looking forward to flying back for Xmas.

Anyway, Good luck!
