I’m looking to retire in the Charleston area. I live in asingle family home in the NJ suburbs and my mother is about 30 miles away in acondo. The plan is to combine householdsand move to the Charleston area. We arelooking for a community with the same amenities we currently enjoy. Local conveniences(Walmart, Target, Supermarket, Movie theatre, Mall) within 15 minutes, and atrip for cultural events (theatre, ballet etc.) in a nearby metro area with adrive time less than 1 hour. Since Ihave 2 small dogs and there is a possibility of adopting or fostering child, I’mlooking for a single family home or townhouse community which will allow afenced yard. So far my research hasturned up Summerville and Goose Creek as valid options. Mid-size communitiesclose to the beach but far enough away not to be in the flood zone. I would definitelyappreciate any/all suggestions, hints, help, information. In a perfect world (or close to perfect) I wouldlike to purchase a home with 2 master suites and an additional bed/bath forunder $200,000.

Sounds like Summerville to me. Especially if you're thinking of needing good schools at some point. There aren't that many 3 bdrm, 3 bath, (I think I understand that that's what you're looking for) but they do come up.
A 3bed/3bath would be nice but it's not a deal breaker. A "jack/Jill" bath would work or a mother in-law suit would do. I could even work with a 3 bedroom 2 bath as long as the 2nd bedroom ahs a walk-in closet (mom has too many clothes)
I live in Ladson off of Ladson Rd just between Summerville and North Charleston. I would say to look at Summerville. We moved here from Virginia two years ago and love it.
