Geez- the existing condos at Wild Dunes already look they are going to fall into the ocean so let's just through up more stack a shacks!!!
If they do Casino gambling it would probably be on a boat and deporting from North Charleston. I'm not really sure if we have the need though and no way City of Charleston coughs up a piece of riverfront for that purpose.
I really wonder what the heck there is to do for all the people in hotels. We aren't creating additional historic areas, more waterfront or any new true attractions downtown. Do they just take two walks around the block & head back to the hotel?

Just take a look at any of the threads started by people coming to visit for a spell and asking what there is to do. Aside from the many events that seem to be always going on, there's the plantations, beaches, historic tours, restaurants, spas, various natural destination points, etc. Seems to me like there's a lot to do though some of it is not in downtown Charleston.

Hotel occupancy was 85% for the first 6 months of the year ...that rate is considered very high anywhere ...I don't know the price mix tho ...also the number of tourists may very well have gone up .. again given the positive press we've received of late and all the events held in the city as well have been well attended...great news .. especially for the hotel and restaurant tax..lol
We're lucky to have a tourist industry based on history and culture rather than theme park attractions or, God forbid, casinos. It brings a whole different class of tourist.
I'm all against casinos and lotteries. Waste of money. If they made it so you had to have 50 million in assets to play and 50% went to good programs I would be cool with them.

Id love to see the English system of private black tie gaming clubs ...but culturally that would be unacceptable in the US... as it should be .
Next they will vote for casino gambling........I hope not.
If that ever even becomes legal, it'll likely be Myrtle Beach, not Charleston.
