The other apartments are really nice as well (we loved Bees Ferry & Abberly), but the Avenues won out because it was the only place that had 1-bedroom apartments available, the others only had 2-bedrooms available at the time.

Another place you might consider is Concord West of the Ashley. It's a condo complex but there are often rentals that come up in there. 1 bdrms start around $900 and 2 bdrms might be around your limits but it's a nice complex with swimming pools, tennis courts, workout facilities and more. It's also close to Avondale, the hip hot spot in West Ashley and closer to downtown Charleston. There's only a couple on the MLS right now but Craigslist might have some more.

Definitely check out West Ashley. I recently moved to Charleston to work for Boeing and live in the area. It takes me 15 minutes to get to Boeing on a good day. The drive to downtown isnt bad either. Definitely get a list of many apartments as they all seem to be renting out extremely fast.

The Channel at Bowen apartments near Hanahan is fairly new and has good amenities. Prices are in your budget. It's an easy commute to Boeing from the Tanner Plantation area of Hanahan. It's five minutes from 526 off North Rhett Blvd.

Good luck!

"Cheap" is a personal term, so it's hard to say what's cheap to you and I, they are probably different numbers. You can find apartments on the low end here for around $550. Of course you can always find rooms for rent, roommates, and creative housing options if you're diligent and do some research. Craigslist is king for finding rentals in most metros, including Charleston.
