I know it's a broad question, but we are looking to relocate to the Charleston area early this year. Basically any surrounding town will do, we are mainly looking for jobs. I am an administrative assistant and will work in any field. From a standpoint of someone who lives in the area, do you think jobs are somewhat easy to get? Or does it take a long time to find decent employment? Thanks for any advice!
Retro, personally I would never relocate or quit a job without accepting a new position. Anyhow, the professional and salary jobs have increased during my 7 years in Charleston but most employers offer average to below-average wages because there is no shortage of qualified candidates interested in experiencing the "beaches, warm weather, and downtown activities". This includes recent college grads who populate many of the entry level positions for beer and rent money.
Our city is still driven by the tourism, service, and construction industries. For salaried positions you should search Monsterjobs and Careerbuilder while researching local companies using the Charleston Chamber of Commerce.
just sending some info a friend gave me....Charleston Jobs is a great website that gives a pretty good list of openings...I'm still out of state myself, wanting to move to Charleston and I have applied and the jobs on here that I've applied to about 4 out of 8 have at least replied to my resume... Good Luck!
