I am currently living in Los Angeles and am moving to Charleston in a few weeks. I have been searching online for apartments in the Mt. Pleasant area since a few people said that this is where all the nightlife and bars are (please confirm this).

According to apartmentratings.com Long Grove at Seaside Farms and Parish Place Apartments are good. But I know there are better places not listed on this website. When I lived in Tucson I found a great apartment(small complex, cool neighbors, great location) by just driving around searching; unfortunately I won't have this convenience when I move to Charleston. I won't have much time to search around Charleston in person.

I need some advice in what area to live and specific apartments. Thanks!

Why won't you have any time to look?
Cheap hotel for a week & a storage unit can save you a lot of angst in the long run.

how about that LA 'angst' reference!

Long Grove at Seaside Farms would be a much better choice than Parish Place Apartments. You might also want to consider Madison at Park West, The Meridian and Elington Woods at Dunes West. These are all in the $1000 range. Here are some links to some aerial photos that I hope will work. They should give you an idea as to the location of the complexes and a little what they look like.

Your best bet for the night life is to live near downtown Charleston. Mt. Pleasant has some cool hangouts such as Reds on Shem Creek, but Charleston is where the night life is.
Also getting a cab in this town is almost impossible on the weekends. If you are anything like me and double fist the drinks, you will need such a service. However, if you live in Mt. Pleasant or West Ashley- good luck with this. You can call hours in advance, and they still will not show. You need a secret password or something.

I will send you some links to some leads on Apts that are close to the downtown.

I agree that Mt Pleasant is not where the night life is. Definitely downtown area has more bars and hangouts for the younger crowd.

You certainly are going to be closer to "the action" downtown but at the expense of having to pay quite a bit more for a nice condo/townhome than you would pay on James Island or Mt. Pleasant. From your mention of Longrove and Parish Place Apartments, I assumed that you might want to stay in the $1000 range.

There's lots of rentals listed on Craigslist. Seems to be the place for advertising around here. Just go the the housing/rentals link and search for "mount pleasant".
