Our Comcast bill is $160/mos which seems high, considering we don't have any premium sports or movie channels. We got the cheapest package offered at the time - Triple Play - which comes with "Digital Preferred" cable, Blast internet and phone. I didn't want the phone, but it was cheaper to get all three.
We do have an additional TV in the guest room which we are getting rid of since it's an extra $20/mos and we "rent" the Comcast modem for $10/mos.
We don't do any streaming or gaming, but I do need reliable internet as I have an internet business, but not fussy on the rest, although hubby likes some of the sports channels like ESPN.
Like everyone, I hate Comcast customer service, but I do love their voice remote, DVR and internet has been ok, but to be honest, the strength is not great. It often shows me on "limited" service.
Have seen ads for UVerse that say cable and internet for $49. Can that be true? Wondering if that's just basic cable and slow internet. Or is it worth looking into?
I assume since UVerse is AT&T and they bought Direct TV that we would need to get a dish. Not sure how I feel about that. What's the reliability in storms?
Uverse does not need a dish, but it isn't available in all locations. There prices are comparable, but supposedly the internet speed is not as good as Comcast for the price. You are paying way to much for Comcast though. I was quoted a triple play the other day for 89.99. i think some double plays with blast internet were under $100 as well.
This question has been discussed before so you might find more info with a search. I have Comcast which cost me about $50/month but I only have internet. (I don't watch tv much) Comcast guarantees my internet speed to be at least 75 mbps but testing it shows 90mbps pretty regularly. I own my own modem. I've talked to ATT and Knology/Wow but neither can give me that speed for that price.
One caveat... once a year Comcast bumps my bill up to $75 or so and I call and spend 15-20 minutes on the phone telling them I'm going to switch if they don't adjust it back down. They always do and sometimes to a lower price depending on what special they have running at the moment. PITA, but still worth the trouble.
I really don't have a problem with their customer service... they've always seemed responsive enough to me and my internet doesn't go down often. I seem to be in the minority in that respect.
How long have you had Comcast? All cable companies jack up the price after a year. That $49 you see for Uverse will shoot up after 365. Thats way too much for 2 TVs what youre paying. If TV isnt that detrimental and you dont need a lot of channels, I'd drop TV and phone and just get internet.
Then I'd get a streaming stick or Dish Sling for TV. Sling starts at $20/month, you get some good channels, and you just plug a litle stick into your TV i believe. No box or installation. You could also buy Chromecast, Roku etc but you have to pay for most of the services like Netflix, Hulu, MLB, etc.
But yes do what Local Hero said, call and complain and threaten to leave. You may get a cut in your bill or free HBO or something.

that's definitely not the cheapest comcast offers.
however i can't answer your question about uverse being cheaper.

After about 2 months of WOW service, I've noticed that their internet service is pretty dysfunctional. When it works, it works great, but network outages seem like a routine thing.
le roi, you live in North Charleston? I've noted lately, in the north end of MtP, the speeds have slowed. I don't know if this is due to them signing up more people, but it can be noticeable around 6-11 PM.

yeah, i live in north charleston.
i've done a lot of speed tests. i've noticed that at a given time, i might be able to connect to 110mb/s to certain servers (mostly within SC/NC) , but connection speeds to servers in Chicago or London or other far-away places will sometimes connect at 1mb/s or less, other times at around 10mb/s.
and the technician who installed it told me that their HQ had been having problems with the configuration of their networks.
U-Verse has caps, which they currently don't enforce. Comcast in Charleston has caps they do enforce.
